To celebrate World Earth Day 2021, ApisProtect created a short video with five tips for everyone to help our Irish pollinators. You can watch the video here.

How to help pollinators in your garden

  1. The first thing you can do is plant native trees especially those that provide early pollen as non-native plants may not provide pollinators with enough nectar or pollen, or maybe inedible to butterfly or moth caterpillars.

2. The second thing you can do is plant native hedgerows with blackthorn, holly and willow for forage. They can act as corridors to help pollinators move through the landscape.

3. The third thing you can do is plant bee-friendly flowers including lavender, rosemary and broom in your garden to provide more food for our bees.

4. You can let the dandelions grow as dandelions provide both pollen and nectar.

5. Lastly, you can leave a section of your garden for wildlife by letting wildflowers grow as they provide pollinators with food sources throughout the seasons.
